Steeped in history, Burghead sits on the Moray Firth, with miles of white beaches stretching to Findhorn, with Roseisle Forest immediately adjacent. With a working harbour, once described as "one of the safest, deepest and complete harbours in the North of Scotland", hours can be spent watching the fishing boats going out and shellfish and fish being landed in all weathers. A slipway provides a safe entry point for watersports while Burghead bay is an excellent spot for walkers. Birds and wildlife are in abundance.
As Burghead sits on the same latitude as Gothenburg, Sweden, June and July see exceptionally long days with often only a couple of hours of dusk. Burghead is reported to have low rainfall, less than 650mm (25in), making the area one of the driest in Great Britain.
With its harbour, walks, superb beaches and deep history (with the remains of what is reputed to be, the largest Iron Age fort in Great Britain), shops, cafe and pubs, it remains popular with holidaymakers and full-time residents alike. Primary schools are available in Burghead and Hopeman and secondary schools in Lossiemouth and Elgin. Approximately 2 hours from Aberdeen International airport and less than an hour from Inverness International airport, with daily flights to London and Europe. The A96, running between Aberdeen and Inverness is approximately ten minutes from Burghead, with train services available in both Elgin and Forres.
