The current owners have restored the property to its former glory, effortlessly balancing modern trends in a way that is also sympathetic to the properties rich history.

In Further Detail - Ground Floor

The attention to detail in the refurbishment and updating of this stunning manor house is to be admired. Internally and externally, Hawkshead House has undergone a significant redesign to now offer a residence worthy of its predecessors and arguably one of, if not the finest properties of its kind in the Peak District, let alone the Glossop area.

The accommodation in brief comprises of a large reception hall, with galleried landing above. The accommodation then splits into an East Wing and a West Wing, with a corridor at the rear of the hall linking the two, whilst also providing access to a gymnasium, a laundry room, a WC and a boiler room.

The east section of the ground floor area is a large open plan space with designated kitchen, living and dining areas. The living area is fully open plan to the kitchen, with a chimney breast that houses a bio-ethanol fireplace, separating the living and dining areas. The kitchen features an ample arrangement of base, wall and island units plus a full range of integrated appliances.

The aforementioned West Wing has been designed with both entertaining and relaxation in mind. A great place to relax and unwind from the stresses of the day, should there be any, or to simply enjoy yourself. There is a stunning lounge with bespoke floor to ceiling entertainment and storage units. The lounge area opens into a calming day room with bi-folding doors opening out into and overlooking the rear courtyard garden. Completing this section of the property is the games room. A great space for family and friends to come together and currently housing a full-size pool table.

In Further Detail - First Floor

Much like the reception hallway below, the galleried landing divides the upper-floor areas and is flooded with natural light through the large front facing sash windows. There are three en-suite bedrooms to the East Wing. The large master bedroom features sash bay windows to the front, plus an adjacent dressing room and a generous and luxurious en-suite bathroom. Bedrooms two and three both feature en-suite shower rooms.

An impressive and luxurious family bathroom sits between the two bedroom areas. It's vaulted ceiling with exposed stone feature walls add a sense of grandeur to proceedings.

Completing the first floor accommodation in the West Wing are three generous double bedrooms and a study, plus a lobby/reading area.

Location

Old Glossop is a much loved part of Glossop and the Peak District. The main town of Glossop and its wide variety of local amenities and facilities is just a short drive or brisk walk away, whilst the many delights of Old Glossop itself, including the almost immediate access into the local countryside, are on your doorstep.

Glossop is a market town that is very much on the up and increasingly popular with people moving out of the hustle and bustle of the larger cities of Manchester and Sheffield. The thriving high street includes many local businesses and the former indoor market is soon to reopen as a food and produce hall in a similar vein to those in Altrincham and Stockport. It also boast some larger retailers including a Marks and Spencer food and cafe and a Lounge Bar.

Old Glossop itself is an absolute delight. The popular Old Cross area is very much picture postcard in appearance and there are two churches and a Catholic Primary School. The stunning Manor Park encompasses 60 acres of green space and amenities including lawn bowls, tennis courts, a rose garden and a children's play area.

Old Glossop is also host to a healthy number of places to eat and drink, including the oft' referred to "Holy Trinity" of public houses, namely The Queens Arms, The Wheatsheaf and The Bulls Head. A more recent addition to this mix is The Distant Hills Brewery where locally brewed ales can be enjoyed alongside great food.

Past, Present And Future

Hawkshead House is a substantial former mill owner¿s property. In 1904 Isaac Jackson purchased the mill and house from the right honourable Francis Edward Lord Howard Baron of Glossop and set about converting the former cotton mill.

Isaac and Harriett Jackson moved into Hawkshead House, then a large square property made from local gritstone. The house backed on to the factory and was fronted by a grand, formal garden.

Over the years that followed, the house had an unknown number of extensions and provided both dwelling and in later years, office space for the factory.

Hawkshead House had been somewhat neglected in its design and use and underwent its most radical transformation when purchased in 2019.

With a vision to turn the house in to a high specification, modern family home, whilst respecting the history and period of the house, the new owners began work.

What resulted was a large, well-appointed and tastefully designed home for modern living and now ready for its next custodians.
