The Property

As you enter the house from the passageway, you walk into the welcomed appearance of the front room. Warm and cozy but not claustrophobic, there is an electric style wood burner within the purpose built fireplace, of which if you wanted to make an open chimney with multifuel burner would be possible, but at the present time it is boarded off. There is plenty of room for a seating area to watch television and also to dine at table and chairs for ease of meals. The kitchen is functional and although compact, has lots of cupboard space with a cooker, fridge, freezer compartment and microwave facility. The floor coverings are almost new along with the decor. As you ascend to the first floor you come to the landing, of which is quite spacious. The heating system is within the cupboard, which also accommodates more storage and room for a washing machine. The house has loft access from the large bathroom, which has had a fully renewed roof less than a year ago and is insulated. (truncated)

The Location

North Tawton has a lot of history . It appears in the Doomsday book. 20 years after the Battle of Hastings William the conqueror commissioned his men to record his lands and content, North Tawton being one of those records. The many farms within the parish are also mentioned. In medieval times everyone was provided for by the manor, augmented by the monasteries and private charities even in those times, when Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries the village became governed by the vestry, which was built in market street in the early 1850s. Romans crossed the River Taw at what is now Newland Mill, a little outside the present town, and established a succession of military camps there over the years. The Roman fort is believed to have had the name Nemetostatio, meaning "The road-station of the sacred groves", and may have been located on the site of an ancient druidic sanctuary. It covered an area of roughly 600 ft (185m) east-west by 390 ft (120m), and was located adjoining (truncated)
