This property surrounded by olive groves and woodland is situated at 450 m above sea level in the hamlet of Castello. During medieval times it was the seat of the hunting and forestry administration for the Dukes of Genova. During the 1960-ies the local farmers started to desert Castello and the hamlet was left abandoned until an entrepreneur from Berlin discovered the derelict rusticos in the 1970-ies and started renovating them together with three other families, very much respecting the traditional building traditions. The village now counts 12 houses. The houses located at the upper end of the hamlet are mainly used as holiday houses whilst the houses at the lower end are homes to five Italian families.

Larger supermarkets and the coast with Marina di Andora are a 30 minute drive away from Castello. The neighbouring Cote d’Azur with Menton, Monte Carlo and Airport Nice are some 120 km away. A well-constructed mountain road conveniently connects with the coast. Shortly before reaching the church Santa Maria del Bosco, a 300 m dirt track only used by the residents leads directly to Castello. Parking facilities are available next to the small chapel at the bottom of the hamlet from where a few steps lead up to the house.

Castello’s peaceful location away from the busy tourist destinations is ideal for all those in pursuit of nature and a quiet location.
